An AI assistant for the parts of practice that aren't law

Client emails, missing documents, appointments and team coordination: Tessa handles the organisational load so your time goes to the matters.

"I spend my afternoons answering emails that aren't about any matter"

In a small or mid-sized firm, the lawyer is also receptionist, diary and collections desk. The client asking how their case is going, the one who still hasn't sent the documents, the court agent with an update, the meeting that needs moving. Each email is short, but together they eat the afternoon.

And there's a concern other industries don't have: privilege and professional secrecy. Any tool that touches a law firm's email has to be crystal clear about who sees what, where it's stored and what it doesn't do.

How it works with Tessa

  1. 1

Each lawyer connects their own inbox

Everyone connects their Google account (or Microsoft 365, in beta). Whatever Tessa reads in an inbox is visible only to its owner: not the partners, not the rest of the firm.

  2. 2

Emails that ask for something become tasks

"Could you tell me where my case stands?" or "attached is the deed you were missing" become tasks with a priority and a date. Plain notifications close themselves.

  3. 3

    Admin replies in your voice

Tessa drafts appointment confirmations, document requests and acknowledgements. She never sends without your review, and she doesn't draft legal opinions.

  4. 4

    Follow-ups on what's missing

"If the client hasn't sent the documents in 3 days, remind them": Tessa watches the thread and leaves the reminder ready to send.

What you get

  • Time goes back to the mattersAdmin replies prepare themselves and you approve them in seconds instead of writing from scratch.
  • Clients who feel looked afterNobody waits a week for an answer because their email got lost among notifications.
  • Documents that actually arriveReminders go out on time, without you having to remember who owes you which paper.
  • Internal meetings with minutesTeam meetings get minutes, tasks and owners, with a notetaker that's visible on the call.

What Tessa doesn't do in a law firm

Tessa doesn't give legal advice, draft pleadings or legal opinions, or replace a lawyer's judgement. Nor does she manage court deadlines: her reminders help you stay organised, but calculating deadlines and being accountable for them stays with the firm and its practice management software. If a client asks a substantive question, the draft simply acknowledges it and suggests a call or meeting.

Confidentiality and data protection

Whatever Tessa reads in someone's inbox is visible only to them; search and the wiki respect who can see what. Data is stored encrypted on EU servers, you can ask for analysis to run on a European AI model, and we provide a data processing agreement and sub-processor list. Even so, each firm should decide with whoever handles compliance which inboxes and meetings to connect; for client meetings, the prudent approach is to get their agreement before Tessa takes notes.

Example routines for a firm

There's no law-firm template: you pick "Other" and write routines in your own words. A few examples:

  • "Every morning, list clients who've been waiting more than 2 days for a reply."
  • "If a client hasn't sent the documents I asked for within 3 days, draft me a reminder."
  • "On Fridays, summarise next week's appointments and what I need to prepare."

What Tessa reads for each person stays private, your data is stored in the EU and nothing goes out without your approval.

Frequently asked questions

Does Tessa give legal advice to my clients?

No. Tessa drafts organisational replies (appointments, documents, acknowledgements) and you review them before sending. Legal substance always comes from the lawyer.

Is it compatible with professional secrecy?

Tessa is built so whatever she reads in an inbox is visible only to its owner, with data encrypted in the EU and a processing agreement. Each firm should decide what to connect based on its professional rules and risk assessment.

Can she manage our court deadlines?

She isn't a docketing tool. She can remind you of tasks and dates you give her, but deadline control should stay in your practice management software.

Can partners read associates' email?

No. What Tessa reads in each person's inbox is private. Managers see shared tasks and blockers, never anyone's email or individual metrics.

Does it work with Outlook?

Yes, with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, OneDrive and Teams) in beta. Each person connects their account in one click.

What does your team look like?

Same AI for both. Where you start is what changes.
