Your MRR and failed payments, without opening Stripe

With a read-only restricted key, Tessa calculates this month's MRR, new subscriptions, churn and failed payments, puts them in your weekly summary and answers when you ask.

This connection is in beta: it works, but we are still testing it with real accounts.

The data lives in Stripe, but nobody checks it in time

Stripe holds everything about your subscriptions, but getting a reliable MRR means knowing what to count. Do trials count? What about subscriptions with a late payment? Are annual plans normalized to monthly? Many founders end up with a spreadsheet that only gets updated before a board meeting.

Failed payments are money leaking quietly. If nobody looks every week, a customer can go a month without paying and nobody reaches out.

How it works with Tessa

  1. 1

    Create a restricted key

In Stripe, a read-only key with access to customers, subscriptions, invoices and charges. Tessa rejects full secret keys.

  2. 2

    Tessa computes the metrics

MRR from active and past-due subscriptions, normalized to monthly, excluding tax and discounts; this month's new subscriptions and churn; this month's failed payments.

  3. 3

She reports where you'll see it

Metrics appear in the weekly leadership summary and in your investor update draft.

  4. 4

    Ask her anything

“What's our MRR?” or “Which payments failed this month?” in the chat or in Slack.

What you get

  • A clear definitionYou know exactly what's in the MRR: trials are out, annual plans are spread per month.
  • Read-onlyWith a restricted key Tessa can't create charges, issue refunds or change anything in your account.
  • Failed payments surfacedEach week you see which charges failed, so you can act sooner.
  • Customer privacyFor failed payments, the customer's email is masked before reaching the AI model.
  • Connected to the restFigures feed your investor update and leadership summary with no exports.

How each metric is calculated

So you know exactly what you're looking at:

  • MRR: active and past-due subscriptions, normalized to a monthly amount, excluding discounts and tax. Trials don't count.
  • New: subscriptions created this month that didn't end up incomplete.
  • Churn: subscriptions that ended or were canceled this month.
  • Failed payments: failed charges this month.

Status: beta

The Stripe metrics integration is in beta: the calculations are tested, but we haven't yet validated it against enough real accounts. For very large accounts Tessa reads up to a maximum number of pages and tells you if the result was cut short. MRR always reflects the current moment.

Tessa isn't trying to replace a dedicated subscription analytics tool with cohorts and forecasts. The goal is simpler: the handful of numbers a founder should glance at every week, delivered without anyone having to go and look.

What Tessa reads for each person stays private, your data is stored in the EU and nothing goes out without your approval.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to connect Stripe?

Tessa only accepts read-only restricted keys (the ones starting with “rk_”), stored encrypted. With that kind of key nothing can be charged, refunded or modified.

Is this how I pay for Tessera?

No. This is a separate connection that reads your own business metrics. It has nothing to do with how you pay for your Tessera subscription.

Why doesn't it match another tool's MRR?

Every tool has its own definition. Tessa excludes trials and discounts and normalizes everything to monthly; other tools may include discounts or treat past-due subscriptions differently.

Will it alert me if churn goes up?

Churn and failed payments appear in your weekly summary. For a specific alert, create a routine such as “every Monday, tell me if anyone churned”.

Which plan includes it?

Stripe metrics are part of the Team and Business plans, alongside Holded, banks and CRM connections. You can try them free for 14 days.

What does your team look like?
